About Us
Montessori Island School was established in 2003 on Livingston’s 9th Street Island. MIS began as a preschool program with just 7 children. In response to the expanding needs of the community it serves, MIS moved to its beautiful campus on Miller Drive in 2006. MIS has grown substantially from its humble beginnings, and now has a student body of more than 100 children enrolled in its toddler, preschool, kindergarten and elementary programs.
Traditional areas of study, including reading, math, geography, history, and science, coexist with hands-on learning experiences in such areas as music, nature studies, art, and nutrition.
Our teachers are accredited through MACTE (Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education), the premier, international standard-setting and accrediting body for Montessori teacher education. With a staff of twenty devoted and enthusiastic teachers, many of whom possess Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in addition to their Montessori certifications, MIS offers students a comprehensive education that is tailored to their individual needs and presented in accordance with the Montessori philosophy.
A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, MIS strives to be a positive force in our community by inspiring children to love learning, to understand the world in which they live, and to find their place in it.
